Yellow Peril Books is an AAPI-women-led bookseller spotlighting Asian and AANHPI stories based in Brooklyn, NY. Our mission is to celebrate and amplify AANHPI voices through reading, conversation, and connection.

For us, giving our AANHPI community space to define and cultivate what it means to be Asian American for ourselves is critical. In the 20th century, the genre of “Yellow Peril” media purportedly showed "Asian" characters, but it only ever showed American and European fears about Asians. Yellow Peril propaganda inspired stereotypes and sentiments that still harm Asian communities to this day. We picked the name “Yellow Peril Books” to directly reclaim space for Asian stories written by actual Asian people.  Our goal is to create space and discuss stories that help us explore and celebrate the nuance of the Asian American identity.
