Yellow Peril Books is a women and Asian American run bookstore trying to remind people of what bookstores can and should be -- accessible places of learning, discussion, connection with others, or time alone with a good story around fellow book lovers.

For us, giving our AANHPI community space to define and cultivate what it means to be Asian American for ourselves is critical. In the 20th century, the genre of “Yellow Peril” media purportedly showed "Asian" characters, but it only ever showed American and European fears about Asians. Yellow Peril propaganda inspired stereotypes and sentiments that still harm our communities to this day. We picked the name “Yellow Peril Books” to directly reclaim space for Asian stories written by actual Asian people.  More than ever, its critical to create space and discuss stories that help us explore the nuance of the Asian American identity.
